Mejiro in English
国際英語学科では、目白の町のお店や観光スポットを取材し、英語で情報発信して目白を訪れる外国人の方々に役立ててもらう活動、Mejiro in Englishを企画しています。学生による主体的な活動とする予定ですが、まず、その「パイロット版」として、教員が第1回の記事を書いてみました。
今回取材したのは、目白キャンパスの学生と教職員がよくお世話になっている、欧風カレーとハーブ料理の店「ブリボン」です。ランチに訪れてご主人の平木氏にお話をうかがい、記事を作成して学科ホームページに掲載するお許しをいただきました。この場を借りて御礼申し上げます。
これからも近隣のお店や施設等を、少しずつ紹介する予定です（次回以降は英語のみで掲載します）。今後もどうぞお楽しみに。
(1) Bribon
Bribon is a restaurant which serves European-style curry and European cuisine with various herbs. Some may call Bribon a French bistro, but Mr. Hiraki, the master, says that his chef specialises in Italian cooking and has a lot of pasta recipes invented by himself.
In his early years, Mr. Hiraki served his apprenticeship at Hashimoto, a famous restaurant in Kumamoto, where he learned how to cook curry with “fond de volaille” —chicken soup stock. His curry recipes and the chef’s Italian recipes have been blended to make Bribon’s style. Mr. Hiraki says that their concept is having no concept and just serving healthy dishes which delight their customers.
Mr. Hiraki told me where the name, Bribon, comes from. His old master’s name, Hashimoto, can be divided into hashi and moto. Hashi means a bridge, and moto can also be read hon or bon. Bridge and bon were mixed up into the name, Bribon. As you see, it shows his respect for his old master.
I went there for lunch and had Spinach and Mozzarella Curry. It was served with rice and two kinds of salad. Although you may not see in the picture below, a large chunk of mozzarella cheese was submerged under the curry. The curry is smooth and richly flavoured. The rice is half-milled rice grown in Yamagata, and you can ask for a second helping of it.
They also served Penne Ragu Bolognese, a special lunch dish, and several other curry dishes, including Chicken Curry and Seafood Curry, on the day.
They kindly offer us, students and staff members of Kawamura Univ., discounts when we visit them for lunch on weekdays. We love Bribon!
